Our Guiding Principles Are
1. Pursue Uncommon Unity
We believe that every “attendee” has a place of value at SCC. We believe that God speaks and works through individuality within Christ Centered community. We embrace cultural, ethnic, socio-economic, and generational diversity. We believe that diversity deepens our understanding of the Gospel message and enriches our community and its ministries.
2. Strive to be Agents of Change
As a community we want to join God in the advancement of His Kingdom. This will involve first and foremost listening for His voice through corporate and personal prayer followed by a willingness to go when and where He calls us; into the unfamiliar and uncomfortable within our neighborhood and our city.
Social Justice Ministries is common ground for this diverse group of people, and also an expressed desire for a place of involvement both within and outside of the Barbara Mitchell Centre.
3. Be Real (Authentic) Although we believe that Discipleship needs to be intentional
We also believe that it is most effectively done while serving alongside other imperfect Christ followers. It is important for both a disciple and a Christ seeker to feel like they have found a place of purpose and belonging where they do not have to hide their imperfections or pretend to be someone they are not. We value honesty, transparency and a lifelong willingness to grow into the people that God designed us to be.
4. Explore Honest Questions together
Our goal is to grow in Spiritual depth while we serve both our neighbor and “the least of these” to the glory of God. We encourage people to ask questions about the God we worship and the word he has given us. Although we do not have all the answers we are committed to exploring these questions together in a safe and respectful manner. We see our worship gathering as an easily accessible place where we can connect with God, with His word, and with one another.
5. Journey Shoulder to Shoulder
We believe that every person that Christ calls has their own unique purpose, and that the best way to discover that purpose is to journey alongside other believers so that together we can discover a purpose beyond ourselves, bigger than ourselves – to see God’s kingdom advanced here on earth. When we as a community step into that God given purpose we can change our world, and show others that there is hope in situations that appear hopeless.
6. Value Networks and Partnerships
In order for SCC to develop into a catalyst for change here in Calgary we need to intentionally partner with other Ministry Units and Community Organizations.
